Church

At Ascension, the worship of our risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is at the heart of everything we do. And we believe that Holy Communion is more than just something we do on Sundays: it’s God drawing us together as a body, a community, where we love and serve another in Christ’s name.

There are a number of ways for you to pitch in here at Ascension, whether on Sunday mornings or throughout the week. If you’d like to learn more, don’t hesitate to ask a ministry leader or member of the clergy. We encourage every member to find a way to serve, as all of us are called to share our gifts with the wider body to glorify God and make Christ known!

Acolytes: If your child is a student in 4th-12th grade, they are warmly invited to take a leadership role as we gather together to worship the Lord. Training sessions are held throughout the year, and the commitment is typically for one 11am Sunday service per month. Contact: Fr. Jake Schlossberg ([email protected]).

Altar Guild: Our members see their service as a spiritual discipline, making ready the holy things that are taken up to offer to God in the sacrament of the Altar. Members serve on teams in a rotating schedule. Contact: Clotille Braithwaite ([email protected]).

Choir: We are blessed to be able to worship the risen Lord at our 11am service with a full choir, led by our talented director of music, Tom Lyles. All are welcome to audition; you do not have to be a professional! Contact: Tom Lyles ([email protected]).

Lectors: The “Word of God is living and active, sharper than a two edged sword” (Heb. 4:12). Lectors serve to read appointed Scripture lessons in church, on a regular rotation. Contact: Kathy Knierim ([email protected]).

Greeters: We seek to welcome everyone who comes through our red doors with a handshake and a smile, and our team of greeters is at the ready with each! Contact: Carol Dore ([email protected]).

Hospitality Committee: Do you have the gift of hospitality? Our committee members serve in a number of ways as they feel called, with fun fellowship events like our Fall Festival and Christmas party, by serving the bereaved at funerals, and in other ways as the Lord leads. Contacts: Carol Dore ([email protected]) and Penny Immel ([email protected]).

Olive Branch: This longstanding ministry focuses on serving our members in need with acts of kindness and encouragement, such as sending cards and offering prayer. Contact: Ginger Norvell ([email protected]).

Usher Guild: “I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God! (Ps. 84:10). This ministry is essential to welcoming everyone in Christ’s name to worship. Ushers greet people with a smile, hand out worship bulletins, assist with directing for Communion, and keep a watchful eye on the premises. Service is typically once per month on a rotating schedule.
