Let’s Take Five

“When you pray, go into your room and shut the door
and pray to your Father who is in secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”
– Matthew 6:6

The daily news of the spread of the coronavirus reminds us that no one is immune.  Our health, our friends, our loved ones, our jobs, and our plans are all affected.  All our lives have been interrupted.

The stress is felt everywhere and it is very natural for us to slip into anger or despair.  We may feel isolated but we are not alone.  Jesus was known to step back from the pressures mounting around him and step away to pray.  He invites us to do the same, that is, to give a voice to our secrets, our deepest fears and frustrations, before our Heavenly Father and set our hearts and minds in terms of his eternal kingdom.

The rich prayer tradition in our church has long recognized the need and value for all of us to pause daily and consider the presence and purposes of God in every moment.  So, we offer this very brief order of Noonday prayers to aid your prayers as we wrestle with the challenges before our community, our state, our nation, and our world.

So, let’s take five (That’s all it takes: 5 minutes) to pray for the health of our world.  “And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”
