The Reverend Matt Woollett

Interim Rector

Matt was born and raised in Texas—San Antonio and McAllen—and graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Mechanized Agriculture.  Work led him to Louisiana where he has lived ever since.  He was ordained in 1982 and had his orders transferred to The Episcopal Church in 2011.  Matt served as the Rector of The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in New Iberia before retiring in 2021.

Matt continues to serve the larger Church by filling in as a supply priest on Sundays and, when called, serving parishes in transition as an interim rector.  Also, Matt is studying to become a certified Spiritual Director through the Metagem Institute.

Matt enjoys hanging out with his wife, Harriet, along Bayou Teche, RVing, playing golf, and taking care of our pets Dori (our rescue dog) and Sugar (our Blue Russian cat).

The Reverend Jacob Schlossberg

Upper School Chaplain and Associate Priest for Youth Ministry

Fr. Schlossberg comes to Ascension after three years at Nashotah House Theological Seminary in Wisconsin. Before that, he spent a decade in the Chicago suburbs working for Tyndale House Publishers; it was there he met his wife Jillian, who still works there as an editor. Fr. Jake and Jillian have two children, Juliana (5) and Judah (1). When not wrestling with the kids, Fr. Schlossberg can be found reading or playing sports, or trying to beat Jillian in a game of Scrabble. Fr. Schlossberg is a graduate of Wheaton College (IL), and is the son of the Rev. Steve and Angie Schlossberg (along with four brothers and sisters)!

Fr. Jake spends most of his time as Chaplain at Ascension Episcopal’s upper school campus, where he leads chapel services, teaches Bible classes, and loves spending time with students. Here at the church, his focus is on ministry for middle and high school youth and leading our acolyte corps. If you’d like to learn more about youth ministry at Ascension, he’d love to connect with you and your family.
