Music

While the music ministry at Ascension is never a performance, it is the desire of those engaged in this ministry that the music will both glorify God and inspire those who worship at the church.

A pointed effort is made to incorporate the wide variety of musical opportunities that the Anglican Communion offers, from traditional to renewal hymns, from chants to offertory anthems, from symphonic accompaniment to piano and guitars.

The main purpose of the Ascension Choir is to help lead congregational singing and enhance the worship service. The adult choir sings on Sunday at the 11:00 a.m. service throughout the year and works on special music for Advent, Christmas, Holy Week and Easter. The Ascension Choir has joined with other church choirs in Lafayette for special programs offering fellowship and free concerts of sacred music.

Efforts are made by our Coordinators for Music to expose the children of our parish to a wide variety of music appropriate for their ages. During the year, the children present music and programs on which they have been working.

The Music Department is always interested in new ways to incorporate music at the other services. We now have music at the 8:30 a.m. service on Sunday and hope to expand that effort. There is always an open invitation to anyone who is interested in music to join us.

Our organ was built by the Wicks Organ Company and has been upgraded to a Hybrid Console by Rogers, featuring 48 ranks (28 pipes and 40 antiphonal speakers) on three manuals.
